Expressive arts is an umbrella term for the incorporation of creative activities into the therapeutic process in order to enhance the client’s ability to explore vulnerable themes through symbolic expression. Your counselor may provide guided prompts for exploration or allow you to engage in a self-directed creative process, depending on your goals and preferences.

Expressive art modalities include:

Sand Tray Therapy

Painting

Drawing/Coloring

Sculpting (with clay or Play-Doh)

Fiber Arts (like knitting or crochet)

Collage (combining a variety of images to create something cohesive and meaningful)
